Basketball Recap: Covenant Day Lions vs. Charlotte Latin Hawks
There's no place like home for the Covenant Day Lions, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Charlotte Latin on Saturday as Covenant Day made off with a 55-35 victory. Given Covenant Day's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Hawks are ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Covenant Day was led to victory by Michael Marcus Jr. and Tyree White. Marcus Jr. scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, while White scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Walker Olshefski was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Covenant Day's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Charlotte Latin, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covenant Day will take on the Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Charlotte Country Day School is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Charlotte Latin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Charlotte Christian has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 6.
