Softball Game Preview: Richmond Red Devils vs. New Castle Trojans

Richmond hasn't had much luck against New Castle recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Red Devils will head out to square off against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. The last three games Richmond has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Richmond made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lafayette Jefferson, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Red Devils fell just short of the Bronchos by a score of 7-5 last Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Devils have suffered since April 24, 2024.

Meanwhile, New Castle came up short against Pendleton Heights on Tuesday and fell 5-2. The Trojans have struggled against the Arabians recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Kattie Mathews was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Kyndra Sims also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Richmond's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for New Castle, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Richmond couldn't quite get it done against New Castle in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
