Basketball Recap: Edgewood Skates Past Merritt Island with Ease

Edgewood won the last time they faced Merritt Island and things went their way on Monday too. The Edgewood Red Wolves simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Merritt Island Mustangs 47-10. Given the Red Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Mustangs are ranked 517th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edgewood was led to victory by Janae Mcfall and Ada Howarter. Mcfall posted 18 points and six steals, while Howarter put up seven points in addition to nine rebounds and six assists. Mcfall is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Germain, who had ten points.

Edgewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Edgewood pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.2 points. As for Merritt Island, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Edgewood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 64-34 victory against Merritt Island Christian on the 10th. As for Merritt Island, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-19 defeat against Cocoa on the 12th.
