Clearfield hasn't had much luck against Bellefonte recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bison will challenge the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Clearfield and Central have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Bison walked away with a 6-3 win over the Dragons. The Bison haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Kam Kushner, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Christian Welker, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Bellefonte made sure to put some runs up on the board against Penns Valley Area on Tuesday. The Raiders never let the Rams get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Vancas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caleb Auman was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Zach Lehman was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Bellefonte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory got Clearfield back to even at 9-9. As for Bellefonte, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Clearfield suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Bellefonte in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Bison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
