2A District 1 recap September 24, 2013
Pawnee scaled the state rankings by moving to 174 from 215 this week, the biggest jump in 2A District 1. The Black Bears were able to move up by defeating Barnsdall 37-0.
Perry fell to Anadarko 53-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cooper Skluzacek threw for 12 yards and 8 touchdowns and ran for 36 yards in the defeat.
Edgar Fierro was the best wideout in the league this week as Hennessey lost to Kingfisher. Fierro racked up 5 receptions for 44 yards. Jose Sanchez helped Hennessey's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 11 yards.
Skluzacek put up the best numbers through the air as Perry lost to the Warriors.
He went 2-6 with 3 interceptions.
Bryce Stewart was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 108 yards as Chisholm fell to the Yellowjackets. Teammate Danner Kiernan added to the ground attack by rushing for 10 yards.
Jarrett Webb was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Longhorns topped Blackwell. The 5-foot-6 senior.
Stewart provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Chisholm beat the Maroons. Stewart's favorite target this week was Karsten Brady, who caught 2 passes for 28 yards.
Leading 2A District 1 in both passing and receiving yards, Hennessey's Dylan Hatchel and Fierro have proven to be a lethal combination. Hatchel has thrown for 253 yards this season, while Fierro has 12 catches for 130 yards. Stewart from Joey Reinart's team leads the league in rushing with 507 yards.
The Longhorns are currently in first, while Alva is in fifth.
Chisholm and Blackwell played the closest game in the league this week, with Chisholm eventually emerging with a 8-6 victory. Stewart in the win.
