Basketball Recap: Bad Axe Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Bad Axe won the last time they faced Vassar and things went their way on Friday too. The Bad Axe Hatchets enjoyed a cozy 62-44 win over the Vassar Vulcans. Given the Hatchets' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Vulcans are ranked 499th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Vassar's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madix Gorleski, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. That's the most points Gorleski has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bryce Brown, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Bad Axe pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points over those games. As for Vassar, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Looking ahead, Bad Axe will square off against North Huron at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Vassar, they will take on Genesee at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
