Basketball Game Preview: Conemaugh Township Indians vs. North Star Cougars

Conemaugh Township and North Star are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Conemaugh Township Indians will be playing at home against the North Star Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Conemaugh Township is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.4 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Conemaugh Township came up short against West Shamokin and fell 59-46.

Despite the loss, Conemaugh Township had strong showings from Ethan Matera, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds, and Colin Dinyar, who posted 11 points and eight boards. With that strong performance, Matera is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Stephen Stango, who put up eight points.

Meanwhile, North Star came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 48-47 victory over the Comets.

North Star is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Conemaugh Township, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6.

Conemaugh Township came up short against North Star in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 52-45. Thankfully for Conemaugh Township, Brady Weimer (who went 8 for 17 en route to 22 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
