Baseball Recap: Howard Extends Winning Streak to Five

Howard put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Wilde Lake Wildecats with a sharp 16-0 win. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.

Austin Proescher made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Proescher was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Abhijeet Singh looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brennan Giangrasso, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Gavin Nystrom was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Howard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Howard's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Wilde Lake, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Howard is set to take on their familiar foe River Hill at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Wilde Lake will challenge rival Oakland Mills on Wednesday.
