Soccer Game Preview: St. Charles East vs. Downers Grove North

The St. Charles East Fighting Saints will take on the Downers Grove North Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

St. Charles East is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Lane Tech just ended the team's 14-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 4-1 to the Champions. Having soared to a lofty nine goals in the game before, St. Charles East couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Downers Grove North). They put the hurt on Proviso West with a sharp 8-0 victory on Tuesday. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Downers Grove North's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Proviso West are ranked 349th).

The win got Downers Grove North back to even at 3-3-3. As for St. Charles East, their loss dropped their record down to 14-2.

St. Charles East beat Downers Grove North 2-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Fighting Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
