Volleyball Recap: Marquette Wins High-Profile Contest Against Incarnate Word Academy

Marquette faced Incarnate Word Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Red Knights with a sharp 3-0 win. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 victory the Red Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

The win didn't come easy: Incarnate Word Academy scored at least 21 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-23.

Marquette found their leader in freshman Camille Plunkett, who had 11 digs and four assists. Those 11 digs set a new season-high mark for Plunkett.

Despite the defeat, Incarnate Word Academy had strong showings from Audrey Schaeffer, who had 21 digs and two assists, and Kendall Stroer, who had 17 digs.

Marquette now has a winning record of 17-16. As for Incarnate Word Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-12.

Marquette wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Kirkwood on the 22nd. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Jackson on the 14th.
