Basketball Recap: Tai Bowler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Monacan over L.C. Bird

Monacan lost against L.C. Bird back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Monacan Chiefs fell to the L.C. Bird Skyhawks 70-65.

Monacan lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tai Bowler, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 16 points along with eight assists and eight boards. That's the most assists he has posted since back in December of 2024. Kobe Benjamin was another key player, going 6-for-10 en route to 17 points.

Monacan's defeat dropped their record down to 16-5. As for L.C. Bird, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monacan will head out to challenge Powhatan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monacan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Powhatan likes a good challenge. As for L.C. Bird, they will head out on the road to square off against Huguenot at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
