Shelton is 8-2 against Branford since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Gaels will look to defend their home field against the Hornets at 4:15 p.m. Shelton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
Shelton is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Hand on Friday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 2-1.
Shelton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tori Silva, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Branford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Hamden 16-2 on Thursday. Considering the Hornets have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Shelby Burnham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, nine RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ellie Brown was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Rasile, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Branford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Branford's win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-8. As for Shelton, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Shelton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Branford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Shelton took their victory against Branford in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 20-0 score. Do the Gaels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
