Baseball Game Preview: Southport Cardinals vs. Columbus North Bull Dogs

Southport is 2-7 against Columbus North since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cardinals will head out to take on the Bull Dogs at 6:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Southport came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-1 to Franklin Community. The matchup marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Columbus North fell victim to Floyd Central and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 1-0.

Columbus North saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brock Kintner, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Columbus North dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Southport, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.

Southport skirted past Columbus North 4-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
