Basketball Recap: Luke Sheldon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Louisburg over J.F. Webb

Louisburg fought the good fight in their overtime game against J.F. Webb on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 61-54 to the J.F. Webb Warriors. Louisburg was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced J.F. Webb earlier this season, when they won 67-55.

Louisburg's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Sheldon, who posted 14 points. Those 14 points gave Sheldon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Alexander, who put up eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Louisburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as J.F. Webb only posted seven assists.

Leading J.F. Webb to victory were Jaydan Hester and Daniel Wright. Hester went 7 for 13 en route to 25 points and three steals, while Wright almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. The matchup was Wright's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Joshua Barnette was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Louisburg's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-11. As for J.F. Webb, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Louisburg will square off against Granville Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Louisburg is facing Granville Central at the right time seeing as Granville Central is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for J.F. Webb, they will challenge Vance County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. J.F. Webb knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Vance County likes a good challenge.
