Baseball Recap: Kennedy Comes Up Short

Kennedy lost against Wheat Ridge back in May of 2015, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Kennedy Commanders fell just short of the Wheat Ridge Farmers by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Commanders have suffered since May 3, 2024.

Marcelo Nevarez and Damian Ortiz stepped up to the plate in a big way. Nevarez scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Ortiz scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Nevarez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Even though they lost, Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Kennedy's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2. As for Wheat Ridge, their victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4.

Coming up, Kennedy will head out to square off against George Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. George Washington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season. Wheat Ridge will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Montbello at 4:15 p.m. on March 25th.
