Montgomery Central posted their closest win since April 24, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Portland Panthers 13-11. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 6-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Matthew Heimpel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Heimpel was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Montgomery Central got a massive performance out of Dylan Fulton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Fulton has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Evander Powers, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and four RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Montgomery Central and bumps their season record up to 2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Portland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montgomery Central will head out to take on Greenbrier at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Portland, they are taking a road trip to challenge Hendersonville at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Portland has given up an average of 12.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
