Basketball Recap: Crossroads Christian Finds Playoff Glory Versus Lawrence Academy

Crossroads Christian extended their postseason success on Tuesday against Lawrence Academy. They skirted past the Lawrence Academy Warriors 44-42. The victory continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Crossroads Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elyssa Phillips, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Phillips has posted since back in December of 2023. Abby Taylor was another key player, going 5-for-12 en route to 14 points.

Crossroads Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Lawrence Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Claire Smith and Ellie Farmer. Smith dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards, while Farmer dropped a double-double with ten points and ten assists. Smith is becoming a predictor of Lawrence Academy's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 16-5 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jaslene Etheridge, who put up eight points and ten boards.

Crossroads Christian's record is now 15-2. As for Lawrence Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.

Looking ahead, Crossroads Christian will square off against Victory Christian Center at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Victory Christian Center knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Crossroads Christian likes a good challenge. Lawrence Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
