Basketball Recap: Hesperia Christian Comes Up Short

Hesperia Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 60-42 bruising from the Excelsior Charter Eagles. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Despite the loss, Hesperia Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jackson Lake dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hesperia Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Hesperia Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Excelsior Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Hesperia Christian will be playing at home against Academy for Academic Excellence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Excelsior Charter, they will head out to take on Academy of Careers & Exploration at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Academy of Careers & Exploration comes in on four and Excelsior Charter on three.
