Softball Game Preview: Hondo Owls vs. Dilley Wolves

Hondo is a perfect 5-0 against Dilley since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Owls will take on the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Hondo and five for Dilley.

Hondo lost 12-5 to Cotulla on Friday.

Hondo got a big performance out of Xevi Hernandez, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Hernandez hit this season. Kristyn Ybarra was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Dilley came up short against Crystal City on Friday and fell 8-3.

Leala Romeo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jnessa Nickels, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Dilley now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Hondo, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hondo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dilley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Hondo took their win against Dilley in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
