Basketball Game Preview: Saltillo Tigers vs. North Pontotoc Vikings

The Saltillo Tigers will face off against the North Pontotoc Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Saltillo's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.

Saltillo is headed into the game having just posted their biggest victory since November 25, 2024 on Friday. They put the hurt on Grenada with a sharp 74-54 win. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Chargers are ranked 190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, North Pontotoc didn't have quite enough to beat Senatobia on Friday and fell 65-62. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Saltillo is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for North Pontotoc, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-17.

Everything came up roses for Saltillo against North Pontotoc in their previous matchup back in January of 2016, as the squad secured a 70-41 victory. Will Saltillo repeat their success, or does North Pontotoc have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
