Softball Game Preview: Salem Tigers vs. Licking Wildcats

The Salem Tigers will head out to challenge the Licking Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Salem not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 15-0). Everything went their way against Kingston as they made off with a 16-1 victory. Considering the Tigers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Licking won against Steelville on Thursday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Wildcats beat the Cardinals by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Licking is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Salem, their victory bumped their record up to 13-11.

Salem was able to grind out a solid win over Licking in their previous matchup back in April, winning 15-10. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
