Softball Preview: Garrett Railroaders vs. Angola Hornets
Garrett is 1-7 against Angola since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Garrett Railroaders will head out on the road to square off against the Angola Hornets at 5:30 p.m. Angola took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Garrett, who comes in off a win.
Garrett took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Hamilton by a score of 13-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Garrett might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three matches by ten runs or more this season.
Ashlee Vanderbosch made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit over four innings pitched. Vanderbosch has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Vanderbosch was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and a triple.
In other batting news, Atalie Gullett was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Adelynn Work was another key contributor, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and a stolen base.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Angola's offense. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 8-0 walloping at the hands of Fremont on Tuesday.
Garrett's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Angola, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Garrett came out on top in a nail-biter against Angola in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Garrett since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
