Baseball Game Preview: Platte County Pirates vs. Belton Pirates

Platte County will head out to square off against Belton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Platte County 4, Belton 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Platte County can't be too worried about heading out to take on Belton: they just beat Grain Valley at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Pirates walked away with a 7-3 win over the Eagles on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Belton came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 11-1 victory. The game was the first time the Pirates have beaten the Bears on their field since April 22, 2019.

Platte County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Belton, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7.

Platte County skirted past Belton 3-2 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for Platte County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
