Baseball Game Preview: Clayton Comets vs. South Garner Titans

Clayton and South Garner are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Clayton Comets will square off against the South Garner Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Last Friday, Clayton came up short against Willow Spring and fell 6-1. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Clayton got a good showing from Lucas Hatch, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Hatch posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Clayton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jamison Lynch, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Lynch has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, South Garner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 10-0 to Garner. The match marked the first time this year in which the Titans were not able to get on the board.

Clayton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for South Garner, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Clayton's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. Clayton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game.
