The San Marcos Rattlers will take on the Eagle Pass Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
San Marcos' defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Canyon with a sharp 20-0 win. Considering the Rattlers have won three contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
San Marcos' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Frans Steyn, who threw for 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 13.6 yards per attempt. Those 300 passing yards gave Steyn a new career-high. San Marcos also got a significant boost from Justin Tardy, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 125 yards.

Another reason for the win was San Marcos' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. It was truly a group effort as Trey Walker, Darius Davis, and Izayah Young picked up two apiece. Davis is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Eagle Pass over Del Rio in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Eagles blew the Rams out of the water with a 41-0 final score. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Eagle Pass' win came from a few key players San Marcos will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Xavier Barrera, who rushed for 68 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 127 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Luis Flores, who rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.
San Marcos' record is now 6-4. As for Eagle Pass, their record now sits at 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. San Marcos has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Eagle Pass struggles in that department as they've been averaging 178.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
San Marcos came up short against Eagle Pass in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, falling 40-32. Thankfully for the Rattlers, Andres Villarreal (who threw for 331 yards and six TDs while picking up 12.7 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 150 yards on only 11 carries) won't be suiting up this time.
