Basketball Recap: Jayden Mullins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Elwood over Morristown

Elwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 65-45 to the Morristown Yellow Jackets. The Panthers were down 54-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Elwood's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Mullins, who went 6-for-12 on his way to 17 points and three steals. Mullins continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Cam Gallegos was another key player, putting up 15 points and five boards.

Kellen Crim was his usual excellent self, shooting 50% from the field en route to 25 points and five steals for Morristown. Crim has become a key player for Morristown: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least five steals, but 7-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colin Kieninger, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Elwood's loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Morristown, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-12.

Elwood has already played their next matchup, a 72-47 defeat against Knox on the 1st. As for Morristown, they will take on South Decatur at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Morristown is facing South Decatur at the right time seeing as South Decatur is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
