Basketball Recap: Zion Bellamy Key Part of Team Effort in Wildkats Win

Kokomo won the last time they faced Huntington North and things went their way on Friday too. The Kokomo Wildkats came out on top against the Huntington North Vikings by a score of 65-53.

Kokomo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zion Bellamy led the charge by shooting 54% from the field on his way to 18 points along with five assists and three steals. The contest was Bellamy's fifth in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of D.J. Nash, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.

Bellamy wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Kokomo was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. Kokomo is 16-4 when they've passed the ball that well.

Despite the loss, Huntington North still got an impressive performance from Ethan Zahn, who went 7-for-17 to rack up 23 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grant Campbell, who posted four points and nine boards.

Kokomo's victory bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Huntington North, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.

Kokomo and Huntington North are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Kokomo will square off against McCutcheon at 7:30 p.m. on March 7th. Kokomo will be up against McCutcheon's rather soft defense (which has allowed 55 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Huntington North, they will face off against Homestead at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
