Football Recap: Lakewood Starts Season with Win Against Wheat Ridge + How To Watch

Lakewood took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. They breezed past the Wheat Ridge Farmers to the tune of 69-0. The Tigers pushed the score to 55-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Farmers had no chance of recovering from.

Lakewood found their leader in sophomore Saylor Slaughter, who threw for 155 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 34 yards. Laney Gonzales made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Lakewood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off seven passes before the game was over. Gonzales led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by herself. Aaliyah Perea got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Lakewood and Wheat Ridge will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Tigers are set to challenge their familiar foe Standley Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Wheat Ridge will square off against rival Steamboat Springs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
