Baseball Game Preview: Montezuma Braves vs. North Mahaska Warhawks

The Montezuma Braves will venture away from home to face off against the North Mahaska Warhawks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Montezuma has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Montezuma and Keota meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Braves came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Braves couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Mahaska). They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past H-L-V 18-17. The victory continues a trend for the Warhawks in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.

Montezuma's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for North Mahaska, the win also got them back to even at 2-2.

Montezuma suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to North Mahaska in their previous matchup back in June of 2024. Can the Braves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
