The Los Fresnos Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Los Fresnos has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Los Fresnos lost 21-2 to San Benito on Friday. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Greyhounds recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Los Fresnos saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leslie Cantu, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Cantu has posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Veterans Memorial). Everything went their way against Hanna on Friday as Veterans Memorial made off with a 20-3 victory. With that win, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Camila Olvera was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Gia Perez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. She is also on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Mia Gonzalez was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Veterans Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Veterans Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 10-8-1.
Los Fresnos' speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. Los Fresnos has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Veterans Memorial, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Los Fresnos continue to outrun the ball?
