Baseball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Liberty

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Liberty ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Levelland Lobos 11-10. Winning may never get old, but the Patriots sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Hudson Hefner looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gavin McPherson was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Hutson, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Liberty hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four strikeouts batters in 13 consecutive contests.

Liberty's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Levelland, they moved to 13-10 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty will venture away from home to square off against Estacado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Matadors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.18 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Levelland, they will head out to take on Big Spring at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lobos are facing the Steers at the right time seeing as the Steers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
