Softball Recap: Beloit Memorial Takes a Loss

Beloit Memorial was the 11-4 winner over Badger when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Purple Knights fell 6-2 to the Badgers on Monday. Purple Knights fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Badgers since on Monday.

Rilynne Cleland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jasmine Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

Beloit Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Badger, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Beloit Memorial will head out to face off against Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Badger, they will take on Waukesha West at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Badgers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
