Softball Recap: North Monterey County Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North Monterey County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Stevenson Pirates 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Condors considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Paige Ramirez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.

At the plate, Meiha Vargas was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Scharton, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI.

North Monterey County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stevenson only posted a batting average of .256.

North Monterey County's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-20. As for Stevenson, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. North Monterey County will challenge rival Soledad at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Stevenson is set to take on their familiar foe Monte Vista Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
