Basketball Recap: Huss Huskies vs. Crest Chargers
The Huss Huskies proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 24) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Crest 62-60. The win was all the more spectacular given Huss' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while the Chargers are ranked 47th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Huss to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Phillips has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Satchelle Pettis, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
Crest's loss came despite strong showings from Aj Adams and Lyrik Pettis. Adams scored 16 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds, while Pettis dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. D'various Surratt was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Huss is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. As for Crest, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Huss will face off against the Mountaineers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kings Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully the Huskies like a good challenge. Crest is on the road again on Friday and plays the Greenwave at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Ashbrook has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 296 points over their last four games.
