The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds will take on the Izard County Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Sloan-Hendrix didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Marshall on Monday. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Corey Sullens made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Stetson Wall was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braxton Wall, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Izard County beat Tuckerman 12-8 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Like Sloan-Hendrix, Izard County also got a great game from a two-way player: Xander McCandlis. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. McCandlis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Braxton Mccandlis and Portor Burton did most of the damage at the plate: Mccandlis scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Burton scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Burton has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Noah Mosley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Sloan-Hendrix's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Izard County, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
