Baseball Recap: Empire Comes Up Short

Empire has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.5 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They fell just short of the Benson Bobcats by a score of 10-9. Even though they lost, the Ravens' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.8 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Empire got a good showing from Chance Bird, who struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave Bird a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Micah Tiggas was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Zackary Breinlinger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Empire's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Benson, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-4.

Empire wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 12-2 victory against Coolidge on the 4th. As for Benson, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-5 win against Desert Christian on the 3rd.
