Basketball Recap: New Caney Comes Up Short

New Caney lost against Willis back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The New Caney Eagles were dealt a 74-32 loss at the hands of the Willis Wildkats. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly 42 points.

Willis' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was SJ Young, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. What's more, Young also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Jackson Day, who went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

New Caney dropped their record down to 6-21 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Willis, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-9.

New Caney will head out on the road to face off against Caney Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New Caney is facing Caney Creek at the right time seeing as Caney Creek is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Willis, they will be playing at home against Conroe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Willis' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
