Football Recap: Central Starts off Right with Win over Spalding

Central had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They claimed a resounding 37-0 win over the Spalding Jaguars. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Jaguars, too.

Jonaz Walton had a dynamite game, picking up 99 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 123 yards on only ten carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 123 rushing yards dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jr Harris, who threw for 196 yards and three TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 226 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Spalding still got an impressive performance from Camauri Berry, who rushed for 107 yards on only 12 carries. Berry got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 64 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will face off against Oxford at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spalding, they will square off against Lovejoy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
