Basketball Recap: Fredericktown Finds Playoff Glory Versus Madison Plains

It's playoff time, and Fredericktown had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victor by a 49-29 margin over the Madison Plains Golden Eagles on Friday. Given the Freddies' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cally Carpenter was her usual excellent self, going 7-for-15 on her way to 18 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Fredericktown's points. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Algire, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Madison Plains' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mackenzie Reeves, who earned eight points. What's more, Reeves also posted a 60% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Claire Mason was another key player, putting up three points and seven boards.

Fredericktown has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.1 points over those games. Madison Plains is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-9.

Fredericktown didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-20 win against Northridge on the 19th. Madison Plains does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
