Softball Recap: Atchison Extends Winning Streak to Six

Atchison had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Harmon Hawks. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-0 on April 3rd.

Ava Garoutte and Izzy Bowen did most of the damage at the plate: Garoutte went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Bowen went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. Kirrah Duncan was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base.

Atchison pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Harmon, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atchison will head out to square off against Wyandotte at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Harmon, they will venture away from home to challenge Sumner Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
