Basketball Recap: Del Sol Falls Despite Big Games from Ge Ge Pickens and Ricana Taylor

After flying high against Southeast Career Tech last Wednesday, Del Sol came back down to earth. The Del Sol Dragons took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canyon Springs Pioneers on Thursday. The Dragons' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Del Sol had strong showings from Ricana Taylor, who posted ten points along with 11 boards and ten assists, and Ge Ge Pickens, who went 8 for 17 on her way to 19 points in addition to three steals and three blocks. Taylor has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Raina Cobbin, who went 5 of 11 en route to 11 points.

Even though they lost, Del Sol smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Canyon Springs found their leader in sophomore Jasmine Legardy, who dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 15 rebounds, and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Legardy has scored all season. Ariyanah Custard was another key player, putting up ten points along with six steals and five assists.

Del Sol's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Canyon Springs, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-9.

Del Sol has already played their next match, a 75-47 victory against Sunrise Mountain on the 24th. As for Canyon Springs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-17 win against Mojave on the 24th.
