Baseball Game Preview: New Canaan Rams vs. Westhill Vikings

New Canaan and Westhill are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Rams will host the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games New Canaan has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

New Canaan fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Darien on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Wave by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Rams have lost by just one run.

Zak Joslin spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, New Canaan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Shullman, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double. That double was Shullman's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Westhill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-5 to St. Joseph, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Westhill's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for New Canaan, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Everything went New Canaan's way against Westhill in their previous matchup back in April, as New Canaan made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
