Basketball Recap: Bushland Takes a Loss

It was a Battle of the Birds when Bushland duked it out withVolcano Vista on Thursday. The Bushland Falcons fell 60-52 to the Volcano Vista Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 432nd in Texas, while the Hawks are ranked 16th in New Mexico).

Volcano Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jalysa Hines, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points and four steals. Hines is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriana Zavala, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Bushland now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Volcano Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Bushland will take on Silver in a tournament on Saturday. As for Volcano Vista, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-47 victory against Piedra Vista on the 20th.
