Baseball Recap: Alonso Drops Season-High Score on Sickles

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alonso). They put the hurt on the Sickles Gryphons with a sharp 14-6 victory on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Ravens have won by exactly eight runs.

Marcelo Diaz Villalon looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jordan Campos and Aidan Sansing did most of the damage at the plate: Campos got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Sansing scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Sansing a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Maikol Madueno, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Alonso always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Alonso is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Sickles and nudges their season record down to 11-5.

Alonso will have a chance to go back-to-back against Sickles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
