Softball Recap: Christopher Cougars vs. Notre Dame Regents
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Christopher had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Notre Dame Regents. The win made it back-to-back victories for Christopher.
Danielle Keller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits.
At the plate, Christopher let Melissa Lugo and Alyssa Farrow loose on the outfield. Lugo scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Farrow scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jaelynn Corona was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
On Notre Dame's side, Avery Provenzano put in work no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Provenzano has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in six consecutive pitching appearances. Christopher's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10. As for Notre Dame, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8.
