Softball Recap: Rossville Continues Road Dominance on Monday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rossville). They were the clear victors by a 26-3 margin over the Frontier Falcons on Monday. The Hornets have beaten the Falcons the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Falcons has come to flipping the script.

Allie Elliott and Addi Gorbett did most of the damage at the plate: Elliott went 4-for-6 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Gorbett went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Gorbett a new career-high. Brielle Layton also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Rossville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Rossville pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Frontier, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rossville will face off against Clinton Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.43 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Frontier, they will challenge West Lafayette at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
