Basketball Game Preview: Calloway County Lakers vs. Marshall County Marshals

Calloway County and Marshall County are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. The Calloway County Lakers will venture away from home to square off against the Marshall County Marshals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Calloway County comes in on five and Marshall County on 23.

Last Monday, Calloway County didn't have too much trouble with Carlisle County as they won 67-50. Given the Lakers' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Comets are ranked 158th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Marshall County made easy work of Murray on Tuesday and carried off a 74-48 victory. The Marshals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Marshall County's win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.6 points per game. As for Calloway County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season.

Calloway County took a serious blow against Marshall County when the teams last played back in January, falling 79-52. Can Calloway County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
