Baseball Game Preview: P.K. Yonge Blue Wave vs. Newberry Panthers

For the first time this season, P.K. Yonge will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Newberry Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. P.K. Yonge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, P.K. Yonge didn't have quite enough to beat Bradford and fell 5-4. The Blue Wave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Darius Medley was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of P.K. Yonge's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 8-3 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Josh Davis was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Newberry came up short against Episcopal School of Jacksonville on Wednesday and fell 4-1.

Tavis Honeycutt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run.

Newberry's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for P.K. Yonge, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

P.K. Yonge might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Newberry in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can the Blue Wave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
