After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lindale, Mabank was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Athens Hornets 13-11. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Emmy Barnes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Barnes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mabank let Savannah Phillips and Erin Ottmo run wild. Phillips scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Ottmo scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Trinity Mixon, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Mabank kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.8.

Mabank's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-13. As for Athens, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mabank will square off against rival Brownsboro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Athens is set to face off against their familiar foe Canton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
