Basketball Recap: 14 Straight Home Victories for Elyria

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Elyria's strategy against Westlake on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Elyria Pioneers blew the Westlake Demons out of the water with an 80-42 final score. The Pioneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Elyria's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendyll Compton, who went 6 of 11 to rack up 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the most steals Compton has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Crutcher, who went 6 for 11 en route to 17 points.

Elyria was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They racked up eight more assists than Westlake's also-impressive total of 13.

Westlake lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Hayden Purdy, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Evan Hargett was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Elyria pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Westlake, their record now sits at 14-7.

Elyria and Westlake should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Elyria will take on Midview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 614 places (97 vs. 711). Elyria is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Westlake (ranked 223rd) will meet North Olmsted (ranked 516th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
